"As I had read only good things here about Royal Palace, I and two of my colleagues decided not to omit this place in any way while we were staying Budapest in September. There is printable coupon on their website, and written that it is worth 50€. We were quite sceptical about this, however, on a nothing ventured, nothing gained basis we printed it. We called the number on the coupon from the hotel, and asked them to give us a lift as it was written that the bonus was only valid if we were taken to the club by their taxi service. We only understood later what the point about this was. The situation is that the taxi drivers’ mafia in Budapest takes naïve tourists to the worst places where they are deceived – and naturally taxi drivers get their shares from this. So they sent their own car and I can guarantee that everything happened as it was written in advance. The taxi and the admission were free, and the coupon was enough for quite a few drinks. I asked the manager how it was worth for them in this way. He answered this way they usually have a full house, and they are the most frequented club in Budapest, and if guests are provided with high quality service, furthermore given a bit of pocket money by the club, they will stay and spend money with pleasure. The same happened to me, I felt really good, and spent many times more than the received 50 € until morning, however, I can assure everyone that it was worth:)"

"I had been planning to go to Budapest for long, and at last I and my friends managed to organize a long weekend this autumn. My friends had already been there for a few times, and informed me about which clubs are worth visiting, and which should be avoided. I also experienced what is mentioned here, i.e. the taxi driver of the hotel wanted to take us to a place that was different from what we originally asked. My friends’ exclusive recommendation was Royal Palace, and they suggested that I should not try any other places. Now that I am writing these lines, I also recommend this to everyone reading this. I received an extremely friendly and professional catering. The girls were very nice, they spoke English, and provided me with everything I asked for. The prices were also fair, practically I spent only half of what I would have spent in a similar club of any Western European city. All in all, the experience is unforgettable, and I am absolutely sure that I am visiting this pleasant club next year again."

"Last week i was in budapest on holiday. I met with nice hungarian friends and they took me to a great party near by the danube called club studio. I enjoyed it very much! The day after they showed us the nightlife of budapest, so we went to some clubs around the city. The first two i didn’t like too much…one of them was the madame pompadour in the city center, the second i don’t remember, but was also close to it. After they took me to the other part of budapest to the royal palace. This is a very comfortable and friendly place with solid prices and with a lot of showgirls working. What was very special for me is the restaurant part, the meal was perfect ! So, i was realy satisfied with the hungarian hospitality:) "

"It is from a reliable source that hotels have started to take the concerted activity of taxi drivers and certain clubs against their guests seriously, and several taxi drivers working for hotels have already been fired. The problem is that the above places and the taxi drivers’ mafia have made the nightlife of Budapest disreputable, and the once flourishing nightlife of Budapest is merely a shadow of what it was formerly. The authority as well as the police started to deal with the above corrupt people after several years of delay. Now it is true that clubs are closed after one another, however, I think it is a bit too late. The truth is that the issue has been dealt in the wrong way. The real problem is the corrupt taxi drivers’ mafia. If the above phenomenon disappeared from the nightlife of Budapest, the bars founded on it would also disappear for ever. In my opinion the police, companies rendering taxi service, hotels, as well as consumer protection should form a united front in order to prevent the above persons from damaging a great number of businesses based on tourism. Because the above phenomenon affects the whole sector. Bad news travels fast, and it can only be stopped by more good news. Unfortunately, poor cheated tourists have spoken ill of Hungary for years (which is justified). The greatest losers thereof are those trying to get on in an honest way. Those working in catering who would never think of causing financial damage to anyone. The main point is that something good has already started and the nightlife of Budapest is starting to purify, which is also promoted by forums like this. I wish further success in the above process!"

Unfortunately, it is also such a club which doesn't operate for its guests, but plays into the hands of the notorious taxi maffia of Budapest. They pay a high, - 100 euros - amount of charge after every guest, which they can only offset of course with the regular lesion of guests. That is why over-invoicing often happens here, and there are hided costs – like for example the first drink for 80 euros. Because of the lot of complain letters and the reasons mentioned above, we rank this place in a specifically not suggested category. We can mention only the position of the club as positive attribute.

A few months ago we came to Budapest to attend a conference. On the evening of our arrival me and my two colleagues decided to visit a club. I wish we had not done so. Unfortunately back then I had not yet read this forum, so we took a taxi of the Kempinsky Hotel and we asked the driver to recommend us something. So we did get to a bar called Sin City (the name itself already sounds bad), where we were told right upon our arrival that we had to pay the price of the first drink which I do not remember exactly but cost about EUR 80 per person. When our drinks were served three girls sat down at our table uninvited, and the waiter brought them drinks without us ordering any. This already seemed suspicious to us, and we did send away the girls, but 2 minutes later the whole thing was repeated. We had enough o this very quickly, so we asked for the bill and called a taxi. This is when we had to face what we never expected in our worst dreams. The amount of the invoice was more than EUR 600 so that we had three drinks in total. Of course there was a scandal, we did not want to pay the amount. We were surrounded by the personnel and they said that we could not get out of the place as long as we did not pay, because we had invited six girls and the invoice also contained the additional six drinks. We all argued, as a result of which we paid part of the amount and we were allowed to leave. Later at the hotel we made a complaint against both the taxi driver and the bar. We had no energy or time to go to the police, although I would have liked to do so. We made a complaint against the taxi driver because, as we were subsequently informed, they take their clients to places where tourists mostly get cheated, and the drivers receive quite a significant commission for that. So our taxi driver was also well aware of what would happen to us, and he still took us there. Subsequently we also wrote a complaint letter to the manager of the hotel, we are still waiting for his reply. I would hereby like to warn everyone to be careful and get information about which club to choose, because they can easily end up in a situation like us. It is very important that one does not rely on a taxi driver in any case, the visitor should choose the bar himself, and one should not let others talk them out of it, because the taxi driver will take them to the most expensive and most incorrect place for sure.

Since, i live in Budapest i know how the things are working here and what are the most painful problems with clubs. Why am i writing? Because i don’t like what is going on in Budapest and honestly i don’t understand how the hungarian govermen lets the taxi mafia and the corrupt bars working.

Unfortunately i didn’t read this site before to came to Budapest.. I become one of the victims of taxi mafia. One of them took me to the Sin City and i payed at least three times more then i've should to. There are about 15 girls working there, promising full escort service. They let you pay the escort promising to come to the hotel room, but they don’t. So keep out this place. Not recommened!
